Terpenes are naturally occurring aromatic compounds found in cannabis and many other plants. Different cannabis products may contain different combinations and concentrations of terpenes, known as a terpene profile.
Terpenes are different from cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. Understanding terpene terminology can help patients better interpret product information and have informed conversations about their treatment.
Research into medical marijuana continues to evolve. Evidence is stronger for some potential therapeutic uses than others, and products can vary considerably in THC, CBD, formulation, dosage, and method of administration.
Individual factors—including medical conditions, medications, age, metabolism, previous cannabis exposure, and treatment goals—can also influence a patient's experience. We believe patients should understand both the potential therapeutic role and the possible risks of medical marijuana when making treatment decisions.
